Joel received an undergraduate degree in athletic training from Brigham Young University before completing physical therapy school at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN. While in Minnesota, he practiced as an Athletic Trainer at Henry Sibley High School and at the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center. Following Graduation, Joel moved to Northwest Washington, working in various practice settings including acute care, skilled nursing and inpatient rehabilitation. He served as the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education for Northwest Physical Therapy, working with both PT and PTA assistant students. Joel also worked as clinic director at Ironwood Drive Physical Therapy in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. While pursuing a PhD at the University of Idaho, he worked as Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education for the athletic training program. Joel was also Program Director of a developing four-college consortium program to provide a PTA program across most of the state. After completing his PhD, he joined the faculty of RMUoHP in January 2013 as Director of Clinical Education, later accepting the position of Associate Program Director. Joel worked as a PRN therapist for Dry Creek PT for 7 years before joining the team full-time at the East Lehi clinic. He is active in Utah's state PT association, serving as a delegate for the state. He is also a member of the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy and the American Academy of Educational PT.
